Gov Umo Eno Commissions 15.13km Ika–Azumini Road in Akwa Ibom
Ika, Akwa Ibom — September 24, 2025 — Excitement filled the air as Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, inaugurated the 15.13km Ika–Azumini Road alongside the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, and other dignitaries. The ceremony also included the commissioning of several internal road projects across the state.
During a media tour led by Dr. Essien Ndueso, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Research and Documentation, journalists observed the enthusiasm of residents who celebrated the road’s completion after years of anticipation.
Economic and Regional Importance
The Chairman of Ika Local Government Area, Barr. Utibe Nwoko, hailed the project as the first indigenous road in Ika, noting its significance in linking Ikot Esu/Ikot Akpan Okure in Ika, Akwa Ibom to Azumini in Ukwa East, Abia State, with onward access to Rivers State.
“This is one of the most viable economic corridors in the South-South, opening faster trade routes to Aba, Abia State,” Barr. Nwoko said, adding that the project benefits Akwa Ibom, Abia, Rivers, Cross River, and Bayelsa States.

Stakeholders, including Catechist Biatus Udofia, described the road as a bridge not just for Ika but for regional integration, thanking the governor for investing in a project that extends beyond state boundaries.
Project Specifications
Engr. Cosmos Anigbogu, Managing Director of Cossel Construction Company Nigeria Limited, confirmed that the road is:
- 15.13km long
- 8 metres wide
- Equipped with double drainage
He explained that the terrain was previously impassable, particularly during the rainy season, but is now fully accessible, fostering unity and development between communities in Akwa Ibom and Abia.
Community Excitement
Residents expressed gratitude to both the present and former administrations, noting that ex-Governor Udom Emmanuel initiated the project, while Governor Umo Eno ensured its completion. Many pledged continued support for the governor’s developmental agenda.
