Lagos Records Massive Turnout as 2025/2026 School Session Begins
Lagos State’s Basic and Secondary Schools resumed the 2025/2026 academic session on Monday, September 15, with an impressive turnout of pupils and students across the state.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, led top officials of the Ministry on a monitoring exercise to assess compliance with the resumption directive and inspect schools’ readiness for the new term.
Speaking after the tour, the Commissioner commended the enthusiasm of parents, students, and teachers, describing the turnout as a strong endorsement of government policies in the education sector. He urged students to remain disciplined, attend classes regularly, and stay mentally prepared for learning.
During visits to Dolphin Senior and Junior High School and Saint Paul’s Anglican Nursery and Primary School on Lagos Island, Alli-Balogun announced that the term will run for 13 weeks, from September 15 to December 12, 2025, with a universal timetable to be distributed to all schools.
The Commissioner also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to policies aimed at improving teaching quality and student performance, particularly in internal and external examinations. He encouraged teachers to adapt quickly to the newly adopted Computer-Based Test (CBT) format for the West African School Certificate Examination, stressing that computer literacy is now a vital skill for students.
As part of the visit, the Commissioner distributed writing materials to pupils and presented a standard oven/gas cooker and a sewing machine to Dolphin Senior High School to support Home Economics and skills acquisition programmes. He urged school principals to manage funds judiciously, complement government efforts, and apply creativity to address challenges.
Other schools visited during the compliance checks included Millennium Grammar School and several institutions across different locations in Lagos.
“Let’s work together to make this academic session remarkable, filled with discovery, growth, and achievement. I wish you all a successful and fulfilling session,” the Commissioner told students and teachers.
