In a bid to ensure absolute commitment to meeting the optimal performance for materials testing processes, the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory Agency (LSMTL) has completed a specialised training programme themed: “Project Management of Effective Materials Testing Processes”, designed for officers on Grades Level 13-17 that form the core of the Agency’s Technical and Managerial Leadership.

The programme, held between Wednesday 8th – Thursday 9th October at the LSMTL Headquarters, is directed at bridging the gap between Technical Expertise and Managerial Excellence, towards equipping participants with modern Project Management Frameworks to effectively oversee Materials Testing Processes on Public Infrastructural Projects, using a Strategic, results-oriented perspective for long-lasting structures that are time-bound and within budget.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the General Manager, LSMTL, Engr. Olayinka Abdul explained that the Advanced Project Management Methodologies were specifically tailored for Materials Testing Laboratory Operations to ensure Participants’ Skills align with the Lagos State’s Quality Infrastructure Standards and Developmental timelines.

She said, “Today’s training represents our commitment to excellence in Materials Testing Management, equipping Senior Officers with pre-requisite skills to handle Complex Testing Projects through efficient, precise and accountable strategies in achieving the Agency’s Mandate for durable and safe structures, across Lagos State”.

While reiterating on the relevance of the training in guiding participants through practical applications of Project Management Principles under Strategic Laboratory settings, Engr. Abdul emphasised “This training is a direct investment in empowering our officials standing in the capacity of leaders, with the skills to Optimise Resources, and uphold the highest Standards of integrity, which is not just about testing materials, but effectively managing the entire process for maximum impact on Public Safety and Value for Money”.

“We are moving beyond theory to application, basically providing officers with a robust toolkit to manage the entire lifecycle of a testing project – from client engagement and risk assessment to data analysis and reporting, focusing on turning testing protocols into well-defined, managed, and delivered projects, thereby enhancing the Agency’s credibility and operational throughput”, she added.

According to the Forum‘s Facilitator, Engr. Bewaji Taiwo, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Bamide Taiwo Consult, the training underscores LSMTL’s commitment to continuous Professional Development, which aligns perfectly with Lagos State Government’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda, specifically reinforcing the Pillars of Infrastructural Development and Education, towards consistent, sustainable growth of the State.

Engr. Bewaji, therefore, enjoined the participants to embrace undiluted productivity bereft of cutting corners, imploring them to uphold their commitments and integrity to work, saying, “Uphold your professionalism to the point where you can win public trust without undermining your values. This will enable us all to achieve a better future “

The two-day upskill afforded participants the opportunity to draw models on policy changes that could enhance their understanding of how to strengthen a culture of excellence and accountability within the agency.
