LASPPPA Engages Students in Debate on Sustainable Urban Planning
Lagos, Nigeria โ The Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) has organised an Inter-School Debate and Modelling Competition to raise awareness among students about the importance of sustainable urban planning.
The event, held as part of activities ahead of the 2025 Stakeholdersโ Engagement, carried the theme: โThe Next Generation Has a Role in Achieving a Well-Planned Environment.โ
Building Awareness Through Debate
Eight schools from the Ikeja axis participated in the competition, which was designed to sensitise young people about the roles of physical planners in shaping resilient and sustainable communities.
The Honourable Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Olumide Oluyinka, said the initiative was aimed at catching students young and nurturing their appreciation of physical planning as a tool for sustainable development.
Tpl. Kikelomo Ashogbon, who represented the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, encouraged students to embrace Geography as a foundational subject for careers in Urban and Regional Planning.
Winners of the Competitions
The debate competition produced Agidingbi Senior Grammar School as the overall winner, while InterGuide College Senior Secondary School and Nigeria Air Force Senior Secondary School placed second and third respectively.
In the modelling competition, Tunwase High School emerged first, followed by Nigeria Air Force Senior Secondary School and InterGuide College Senior Secondary School in second and third place.

Commendation
The General Manager of LASPPPA, Tpl. Kehinde Osinailke, praised the students for their performance, creativity, and enthusiasm. He also thanked schools for honouring the invitation, describing the competition as a platform to inspire the next generation of urban planners.
