LASODA, Ministry of Special Duties Strengthen Ties for Inclusive Governance

The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) management team paid a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations to strengthen collaboration on inclusive governance and improved service delivery for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the state.
In her remarks, Mrs. Oyetunde-Lawal expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s hospitality and emphasised that inclusion must be a priority in every aspect of governance and public service. She urged that every government programme provide sign language interpreters and that employment processes integrate PWDs across roles and cadres.
She called for proper registration and data management of PWDs to capture all disability categories, and for a dedicated budget line for assistive tools to enhance productivity and independence. She also highlighted transport challenges and the need for rapid emergency response mechanisms.
Mr. Sesan Ogundeko, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, commended LASODA for proactive engagement and stressed training for public servants (especially emergency personnel) to relate effectively with PWDs.
He also mentioned plans for accessibility certifications, better parking sizing, and elevators that meet standards — all part of a drive to ensure compliance with global accessibility norms.
