Starting Monday, August 11, 2025, the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line will operate every 10 minutes, cutting journey times by 44% and increasing daily trips from 72 to 90 between Monday and Saturday.

According to information gathered from Daily Reporters, the change will see travel from Marina to Mile 2 shortened by eight minutes, offering faster, more efficient service to thousands of daily commuters. Sunday trips will remain at 22.

According to the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), the service boost is made possible by the new rolling stock procured by the Lagos State Government with support from the Federal Government.

LAMATA Managing Director, Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo said the move reflects the state’s commitment to delivering a world-class, sustainable transport system.

“We are excited to facilitate the increase in the number of trips since our commitment is to have a world-class, sustainable transport system that satisfies stakeholders and drives the growth of Lagos,” she stated.

To achieve the new schedule, four train sets will run during morning and evening peak hours, while two train sets will operate during off-peak times.

Akinajo noted that the increase in trips and rolling stock foreshadows the full operation of the Blue Line to its terminal point in Okokomaiko, expected to be completed by late 2026, with passenger operations starting in the first quarter of 2027.

The Blue Line, which began passenger service on September 4, 2023, has already transported over 5 million passengers.

Lagos Reporters will continue to track developments on the Blue Line’s expansion and its impact on Lagos commuters.
