The Eze Ndigbo Ghana, HRM Eze Dr. Chukwudi Ihenetu, has dismissed reports circulating on social media suggesting that the Igbo New Yam Festival will be celebrated in Ghana on Sunday, September 21.

In a statement issued from the Obiukwu Obieziokwu Palace in Ghana and shared across his official channels, Eze Ihenetu described the viral claims as the handiwork of “mischief makers” seeking to mislead the unsuspecting public.

“In the past forty-eight hours, I have observed with concern the circulation of a misleading publication suggesting that the Igbo Yam Festival will still be held despite the official postponement. Let me state clearly that this information is false, misleading, and intended to cause unnecessary tension,” the monarch declared.

He clarified that the event had been postponed indefinitely due to unforeseen circumstances, as earlier communicated on all official platforms. No new date has been announced.

Eze Ihenetu explained that the invitation currently in circulation was originally issued over three months ago, before the postponement decision. He condemned the recycling of the old material, warning that such acts disrespect the office of the Eze Ndigbo Ghana and undermine peace and unity within the community.

“Please disregard these misleading publications and focus only on information that comes directly from my official pages and communication channels,” he urged.

The Eze reassured that when the time is right, the Igbo New Yam Festival will be celebrated in a manner that upholds the rich culture of the Igbo people while respecting the sovereignty of the host nation, Ghana.

“The Igbo Yam Festival belongs to all of us. I remain committed to ensuring peace, unity, and respect for our host country. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support,” he concluded.
