Chinese Delegation Partners Lagos Tourism on Economic and Cultural Exchange
In a move to strengthen international ties, Lagos State hosted a high-level Chinese delegation on Monday to explore new opportunities in tourism, culture, and economic cooperation.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, led the Lagos team in welcoming Mr. Zhang Xiaoqin, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of Guangxi People’s Congress, and the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos, Ms. Yan Yuqing.
Aregbe highlighted the shared potential between Lagos and China, noting that their large population bases could drive tourism growth, cultural integration, and economic partnerships. He also presented the Lagos Cultural Mission Initiative and invited the delegation to participate in the Ministry’s flagship project, the 72 Hours Lagos Weekend Experience, scheduled for November 14–16, 2025.
“We want China’s partnership with Lagos State in cultural exchange and training programmes that will benefit both young and old, ensuring mutual growth and enduring relationships,” Aregbe said.
The Chinese delegation expressed strong interest in cooperation, proposing simplified visa processes, student and professional exchange opportunities, and joint cultural events.

Mr. Zhang praised Lagos as a “powerhouse of human labour, economy, and creativity,” identifying heritage preservation, research, and educational exchanges as areas for collaboration. He also emphasised the strong trade links already existing between Guangxi Province and Nigeria.
Consul General Yan Yuqing reaffirmed China’s commitment to cultural and economic cooperation with Lagos, extending an invitation to the Lagos team to visit Guangxi to further cement bilateral ties.
