The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) has received a donation of essential medical items from the Lifeline Advocacy & Development Initiative (LADI) to support patients in its Oncology Department.

The items, which included four wheelchairs, six three-seater chairs, three footstools, and five inspirational frames, were donated on Friday, August 22, 2025.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the hospital, Professor Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, represented by Professor Adebowale O. Adekoya, Director of Clinical Services and Training, expressed deep appreciation.

“We are always glad when people come forward to support the government. These items will be put into use immediately, and in line with the intention of the donors, they will help meet the needs of patients who are going through pain or living with cancer,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of LADI at the handover event, Mrs. Bimbo Oloyede, Chief Executive Officer and veteran broadcaster, explained that the choice of the Oncology Department was deliberate. She noted that her family had faced personal experiences with cancer, losing loved ones to the disease. As a survivor herself, she was determined to make a contribution more meaningful than food items.

“We decided to do something a bit more impactful because of our personal experience with cancer,” she said. “Our organisation, which was established to address the circumstances we faced, chose to focus on cancer. This led us to donate items that will provide comfort and convenience to patients, including wheelchairs, chairs, footstools, and inspirational frames.”

Mrs. Oloyede was joined at the event by her daughter, Ms. Olubukola Oloyede, and Mrs. Oyeyemi Mustapha, who oversees publicity for the initiative.

Also present at the ceremony were members of the LASUTH Management Team, including Dr. Adeyinka Olawoye, Deputy Chairman, Clinical Advisory Committee (Clinical Services II); Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babarimisa, Deputy Director, Nursing Services (Training); and Mr. Olukayode Oyedele, Deputy Director, Finance and Accounts.

Lifeline Advocacy & Development Initiative (LADI) is a Nigerian NGO focused on tackling the cancer crisis by promoting research and providing support such as care accessories for cancer patients in public hospitals. The organisation was officially launched on March 15, 2024.
