NDLEA Arrests 62 Year Old Businessman
… Recovers 95 Wraps of Suspected Drugs at Kano Airport
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 62-year-old Lagos-based businessman, Nwabueze Nicholas Izueke, for attempting to smuggle cocaine to China by ingesting dozens of drug-filled wraps.
Izueke was apprehended on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport during outward clearance for Ethiopian Airlines flight ET940, bound for China via Addis Ababa.
According to the NDLEA, a routine body scan revealed suspicious objects concealed in his digestive system, prompting operatives to place him under close excretion observation.
Over the course of seven excretion rounds, the suspect expelled 95 jumbo wraps of cocaine weighing a total of 1.589 kilograms.
NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, disclosed that Izueke, who claimed to be involved in the clothing and auto spare parts business in Lagos, confessed during interrogation that he resorted to drug trafficking in a bid to raise funds to complete a house project in his hometown of Iwollo, Enugu State.
The anti-narcotics agency reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying surveillance at airports and other entry and exit points across the country, warning that drug traffickers would continue to face the full weight of the law.
