The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged graduates of the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) Course 10/2026 to strengthen Nigeria’s response to evolving security threats through joint operations, intelligence-driven planning and multi-domain warfare.

He gave the charge on Friday, October 16, 2026, during the graduation ceremony in Abuja, stressing that the increasingly complex security environment requires commanders capable of integrating combat power, emerging technologies and inter-agency capabilities to achieve decisive operational outcomes.

Lieutenant General Shaibu noted that the Nigerian Army’s expansion from eight to 12 divisions represents a strategic repositioning aimed at strengthening territorial coverage and improving operational responsiveness nationwide.

He urged the graduates to translate their professional training into improved combat effectiveness through actionable intelligence, technological integration, effective command and control, and sustained inter-agency collaboration.

The Army Chief also charged them to uphold the highest standards of military professionalism while advancing the country’s national security objectives.

A total of 100 participants graduated from the course, comprising 85 Nigerian Army officers, two Nigerian Navy officers, two Nigerian Air Force officers and 11 military officers from eight African countries.

The joint-service and multinational composition of the course underscores the College’s role in developing operational-level military leaders, deepening regional defence cooperation and strengthening collective capacity to address shared security challenges.
