Troops rescue kidnap victim in Kogi, recover AK-47 rifle
Troops of the 2 Division, Nigerian Army, have rescued a 28-year-old kidnap victim and recovered an AK-47 rifle during an operation in Kogi State, disrupting the activities of suspected kidnappers operating in the area.
The troops, operating from Patrol Base Obajana, encountered the victim after he escaped from his abductors.
During preliminary debriefing, the victim disclosed that he was abducted from the Abaji general area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) about five weeks ago and had been held captive at a location within the area.
Acting on the information provided by the victim, the troops swiftly advanced to the identified location. However, the suspected kidnappers, on sighting the troops, abandoned their hideout and fled into the surrounding terrain.
During the subsequent search of the area, the troops recovered an AK-47 rifle believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing kidnappers.
The rescued victim was thereafter evacuated to the troops’ medical facility, where he is receiving appropriate medical attention.
The successful operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s sustained commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes through proactive and intelligence-driven operations aimed at denying criminal elements freedom of action.
The troops are currently exploiting the success of the operation to track the fleeing suspects and dismantle their network.
