Fear and uncertainty have once again gripped the Benin–Ore Expressway following a deadly ambush by suspected kidnappers on a commercial bus operated by GUO Transport.

The attackers reportedly opened fire on the southeast-bound vehicle while it was in motion, fatally shooting the driver and forcing the bus to an abrupt halt. In the ensuing chaos, passengers were allegedly dragged from the vehicle and herded into nearby forests—a tactic consistent with the operations of kidnapping syndicates active along the corridor.

Eyewitnesses described a swift and coordinated assault, with the gunmen retreating into surrounding bush paths alongside their captives before security assistance could arrive. A video circulating online appears to corroborate these accounts, capturing the immediate aftermath of the attack.

The Benin–Ore highway, a critical link between the South-West and other regions of the country, has long been plagued by incidents of armed robbery and abduction.

This latest attack has reignited concerns over the safety of commuters and the persistent vulnerability of Nigeria’s major highways.

Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of press time.
