Fire Razes Good Mattress Company in Igbesa Free Trade Zone
A fire outbreak on Tuesday gutted parts of the Good Mattress Company located within the Igbesa Free Trade Zone (FTZ), Ogun State, causing extensive damage to its warehouse and sections of the production area.
Firefighters from the Ogun State Government Fire Service, drawn from the Agbara and Ota commands, responded promptly to the incident and successfully brought the inferno under control.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was triggered by a power surge, which slightly affected the transformer supplying electricity to the factory. The blaze consumed large quantities of mattresses stored in the warehouse and disrupted parts of the manufacturing section.
Swift intervention by emergency responders ensured that the fire was contained within the company’s premises, preventing it from spreading to neighbouring firms within the industrial zone.
Surrounding facilities were adequately protected, while the administrative buildings of the company were saved.
No casualties were recorded, as no lives were lost in the incident.
Authorities have assured that further assessments will be carried out to determine the full extent of the damage and reinforce safety measures to prevent future occurrences.
