…as he celebrates newly decorated senior officers

The Commander Infantry Corps, Major General Godwin Mutkut, has reaffirmed that elevation to higher ranks in the Nigerian Army is anchored on trust, loyalty, and demonstrated commitment to duty. He made this known during the decoration ceremony for newly promoted senior officers from Lieutenant Colonel to Colonel, held on 9 December 2026 at the Buffalo Officers’ Mess, Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria, where he served as Special Guest of Honour.

According to a statement issued by Capt. Chikadibia Anele, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Depot NA Zaria, Maj-Gen. Mutkut noted that the rank of Colonel positions the officers at a critical strategic level within the Army’s structure. He urged them to uphold the confidence reposed in them and remain ever ready to make sacrifices in service to the nation.

He emphasized that while individuals may naturally excel either as leaders or as followers, the mark of a truly effective leader lies in the ability to embody both qualities—leading with vision while serving with humility.

Earlier, during the investiture ceremony, the Commandant Depot Nigerian Army Zaria, Major General A.B. Mohammed, praised the newly elevated officers, describing their promotion as well-deserved. He commended their exceptional performance and encouraged them to sustain the high standards that earned them the advancement.

Highlights of the event included the formal decoration of the two new Colonels, followed by group photographs with their families, colleagues, friends, and well-wishers.
